Louisiana Woman Dead After Fatal Labor Day Weekend Accident

BadAccident

The tragic and untimely death of a Shreveport, Louisiana woman in a fatal Labor day weekend car accident has some Louisiana families on edge, and the unfortunate accident underscores just how dangerous Labor Day weekend can be for Louisiana drivers. According to local news reports, 56-year-old Mary Sparks was killed in a car accident on Sunday, August 31, the day before the Labor Day Holiday. The accident happened at a location on Louisiana Highway 3 near Aldren Bridge Loop. The accident was reported to have occurred in the very early hours of that Sunday, at around 4:30 a.m. Reports indicate that “Sparks was driving north on Louisiana Highway 3 while another driver was heading south on the same highway. Authorities are investigating the reason Sparks crossed the centerline and collided with the other vehicle.” Sparks was also reported to have been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident. Although police do not suspect that Sparks was intoxicated when the crash occurred, they collected toxicology samples as part of their investigation. The condition of the other driver, and other details about the other driver, were not released in the most recent news reports.

Labor Day Weekend is a Dangerous and Deadly Weekend for Louisiana Drivers

Although it is unclear what exactly led up to the deadly accident that took one woman’s life in Bossier Parish, it is clear that Labor Day Weekend is a dangerous weekend for drivers on the road in Louisiana, and throughout the country. As Sunny Wall, executive director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, stated in an article urging safe driving over Labor Day weekend, “It’s the last long weekend of the summer before people go back to work, coming back from vacation, going to school, all of the above, the things that start in the fall. So, this is the last weekend, per se, that’s extended, and people want to have a good time.” Often, that “good time” involves drinking alcohol, and then driving, which leads to deadly accidents.
