Two Louisiana Workers Killed in Less Than One Year at Louisiana Plywood Employer

Plywood

When a worker is killed in a terrible and fatal workplace accident in Louisiana, it is always alarming, frightening, and just downright very sad. However, when two workers are killed in separate and isolated workplace accidents, but at the same employer and within less than a year, the picture is even more horrific. Unfortunately, such is the case at one employer in Grant Parish, Louisiana. According to local news reports, the most recent death to happen at plywood employer Hunt Plywood in Grant Parish, Louisiana, occurred just this spring, at the end of April. Reports indicate that on April 21, 2025, 26-year-old Britt Gilliam was injured in an accident at his place of work at the wood products company just north of Pollock. Although emergency medical personnel and first responders attempted to save Gilliam’s life, he was ultimately transported to a nearby hospital, where he sadly passed away. There were no further details about how Gilliam was injured or what led up to the fatal workplace accident.

Unfortunately, this was not the first death at the wood products company. Prior to the death of Britt Gilliam, 28-year-old Shaun Hicks was killed in a workplace accident at Hunt Plywood. Hicks was killed in late September, 2024, when he was involved in a workplace accident “involving machinery at the mill.” At the time of the most recent reports on the accident, there were no further details about how the accident occurred.

Louisiana Workers Have the Right to Safe Workplaces and to Workers’ Compensation Benefits if They are Injured on the Job

The deaths of the two workers in Grant Parish, Louisiana, is a stark reminder that many Louisiana workers throughout the state face dangerous and even fatal hazards and risk every day that they step foot on the job. It is important for Louisiana workers – particularly those in dangerous or hazardous occupations – to know that they have rights and options under Louisiana workers’ compensation laws if they suffer a serious workplace injury that disables them from working. Under Louisiana workers’ compensation laws, most workers who are injured on the job and who are disabled from working are entitled to important workers’ compensation benefits to help them survive financially after a workplace injury happens, and to heal from their injury so that they can return to work. Workers’ compensation benefits in Louisiana may include wage replacement compensation, medical expense reimbursement, vocational rehabilitation services, and other important benefits.
