A two-car accident took the life of one person and another person is left seriously injured in Alcorn County, Mississippi. According to local news reports, on Friday, June 13, 18-year-old Albert Kayden O’Neal, of Sarah, Mississippi, was traveling west on Highway 71, when he collided with a 2021 GMC Terrain that was being driven by 31-year-old Amanda Bain, of Walnut, Mississippi. Bain had been driving eastbound on the highway. Reports indicate that the young teen driver O’Neal was killed in the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Bain, on the other hand, suffered life-threatening, serious injuries, and she was airlifted to the Regional One Health hospital in Memphis. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating the terrible and fatal car accident, and it remains to be seen if any charges will be filed, or if any civil lawsuits will follow in the wake of the accident.

Wrongful Death Laws in Mississippi – What are They and How Do They Help Grieving Families Get Justice?

In light of the terrible car accident that killed one young life in Alcorn County, it is important for Mississippi families to learn about their rights and options under Mississippi civil personal injury laws. Most Mississippi residents and families are likely already aware that drivers that have been involved in criminal conduct – such as drinking alcohol and driving – may be criminally charged under Mississippi criminal laws and DUI laws. However, Mississippi families who have lost loved ones to the actions of drunk, criminal, negligent, or otherwise at-fault drivers also have an option to justice under Mississippi civil laws. Under Mississippi civil personal injury wrongful death laws, certain close surviving family members of those who have been killed in fatal car accidents in Mississippi can file a lawsuit in court for money compensation. There is a limited time to file a claim for compensation after a loved one is killed in Mississippi, so it is best to speak with an experienced Mississippi personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after a serious car accident occurs.
