Mississippi Man Killed in Fatal Commercial Truck Accident in Smith County

The heart-wrenching story of a beloved member of the Mississippi Weather Network and father of an infant son who was killed in a commercial truck accident in Smith County hit news headlines this week, and a community, family, and group of colleagues grieves the loss of one of their own. According to local news reports, earlier last week, 29-year-old Adam Gambrell, of Meridian, Mississippi, was driving on Highway 18, when his vehicle collided with a 2004 Freightliner 18-wheeler semi-truck. The terrible accident happened in Smith County, and the driver of the 2004 Freightliner, identified as 61-year-old Roosevelt Newell, of Taylorsville, was driving east on Highway 18 when the accident occurred. Gambrell was said to have been driving a 2019 Kia Forte in a westbound direction when the two vehicles collided. Gambrell was killed as a result of the collision. He was a paramedic with the Mississippi Weather Network, and was employed by AmeriPro: Health EMS. Mississippi Weather Network CEO Hunter Dickerson recognized Gambrell as a Chief Operations Officer, and said of the young paramedic and father of an infant son, “He loved serving Mississippians as he was a dedicated paramedic in Jasper County, MS, and by relaying life-saving weather information here on MWN.” The driver of the 2004 Freightliner also sustained injuries in the crash, but there were no details about his condition or status. The case is now under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
18-Wheeler Truck Accidents Pose Risk of Serious Injury, Death
As the recent case involving the young paramedic demonstrates, there is no question that semi-truck accidents are extremely dangerous, and those who are involved in 18-wheeler truck accidents are at risk of very serious injury, and even death. Semi-trucks are extremely heavy and large vehicles, and they have the potential to do major damage to smaller vehicles and any occupants traveling inside. The important thing for Mississippi truck accident victims to remember is that they may be entitled to money compensation for their injuries and losses if the truck accident was the truck driver or trucking company’s fault. If the truck driver acted negligently in causing the accident, then not only the individual truck driver, but also their employing trucking company, may be on the hook for the injured victim’s damages. Of course, every commercial truck accident case in Mississippi is different and unique, so it is best to speak with an experienced Mississippi personal injury lawyer about your case to learn about your rights, options, and next steps.
