Louisiana Electrical Worker Hit by 18-Wheeler Truck While Working On Traffic Signal – Where to Turn in Louisiana if You are Injured in a Serious Workplace Accident

For many Louisiana workers that have to work at heights, every day on the job may bring with it a serious, unexpected, and dangerous workplace accident. Indeed, when a Louisiana worker works at heights, a number of things can go wrong, and falls from heights can result in disabling workplace injuries, and even death. One Louisiana worker who was working at heights in Denham Springs just last week unfortunately experienced the dangers of working at heights while working on a traffic signal, and his story is a stark reminder of the dangers that workers – particularly those that work at heights – in Louisiana face every day.

According to local news reports, last Thursday, a driver filmed the scary moment that a Denham Springs electrical worker was hit while in a lift truck by an 18-wheeler truck when it tried to navigate a turn. Reports indicate that the electrical worker was in the lift truck’s bucket at heights working on a traffic signal when the 18-wheeler truck made a wide turn onto Range Avenue at I-12 in Denham Springs, and “the top of it bumped the bucket, flipping the worker inside.” Fortunately, the worker was wearing a harness at the time the 18-wheeler bumped the worker, and the worker “suffered only minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital….” While the Denham Springs Police are still investigating whether any charges should be filed in the case, East Baton Rouge Parish Director of Transportation Fred Raiford said of the accident, “I don’t know how that truck could have made that turn without hitting one pole on one side without hitting the truck.” He also added the importance of the safety harness that the electrical worker was wearing, stating, “That is a mandate we have when you’re in that bucket truck you’ll have that harness on.” When it comes to drivers on the road noticing electrical workers, Raiford added, “Anytime there’s people working in the roadways, there’s signage that’s required or there’s barricades saying this part of the lane will be closed…Safety is always the number one priority for us.”
