CTS

If you have ever been curious about exactly what Louisiana residents are interested in when it comes to researching injuries, the good news is that you need look no further. Indeed, Louisiana’s local news source KALB has done the work for us. In May of this year, KALB reported on a study done by a local law firm about what type of injuries are the top injuries that Louisiana residents look up on Google. The insights are perhaps surprising, and perhaps also tell a tale of common workplace accidents that occur in Louisiana.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Bursitis, Shin Splints, and More

According to the KALB article, the number one most searched injury among people in Louisiana is carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is an injury that can occur with repetitive motion, and affects the wrists and hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a relatively common injury, with 400,000 carpal tunnel surgery procedures performed per year, and 2,567 Google searches performed on the subject per month in Louisiana. If a carpal tunnel syndrome diagnosis is caused by a person’s work, they may be entitled to Louisiana workers’ compensation benefits.

Bursitis and shin splints come in second and third on the list of the top injuries searched on Google in Louisiana, with 2525 bursitis searches per month on average, and 2,058 searches for shin splints on average per month. Bursitis can also develop as a result of repetitive motion on the joints from work-related tasks. Shin splints are typically associated with exercise and can also develop as a result of a person’s work.

Muscle strains rank fourth on the list of the top injuries Googled in Louisiana, with 1,892 searched per month on average. There are a number of ways that a person can develop a muscle strain, and most are related to sporting activities.

Finally, at number five on the list, degloving may be the most terrifying injury Googled frequently in Louisiana. Degloving occurs when the top layers of a person’s skin are ripped away from the muscle, tissue, or bone. This can occur in agricultural work, or when a worker is using industrial equipment. Degloving is a traumatic injury that could severely disable a person. Degloving is searched an average of 1,484 times in Louisiana per month on Google.
