Mississippi Motorcycle Rider Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Iuka Prompting Discussion About Legal Rights and Options of Families Who Have Lost Loved Ones to Fatal Motorcycle Accidents

MotorcycleAccidentCrashed

Motorcycle riding is not only a hobby for some Mississippi motorcycle riders, but also a great way to do one’s daily commute, run errands, and, generally, just get around. Indeed, for some Mississippi motorcycle riders, the motorcycle is a “daily driver,” while other motorcyclists stick to enjoying weekend rides and outings with motorcycle groups. Unfortunately, earlier this month in Iuka, Mississippi, a motorcycle rider who was riding with a group was killed in a tragic accident. His untimely and unexpected death has put Mississippi families on edge wondering what they can do if their loved one is killed in a fatal motorcycle accident.

According to local news reports, on Sunday, August 3, 48-year-old Troy Lundquist was riding his motorcycle with a group of motorcyclists in Iuka when he was struck and hit by an SUV. The terrible and fatal motorcycle accident happened at around 5:17 p.m. in the evening. Reports indicate that the victim “…was riding with a group of motorcyclists, and the group pulled off to wait on him at a red light. Lundquist was traveling north on Highway 25 when an SUV traveling South was attempting to turn left onto Old Highway 72 and collided with him.” Lundquist was thrown from the motorcycle onto the highway as a result of the impact. Although he was taken for emergency medical treatment, Lundquist, sadly, passed away from his injuries at the hospital. The case is ongoing and it remains to be seen whether any further action will be taken.

What You Need to Know When a Loved One Dies in a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Mississippi at the Hands of Another Motorist

Although it is still unclear exactly what happened in the fatal motorcycle accident that took one man’s life earlier this August in Iuka, it is important for Mississippi families to know their rights in the tragic event that a loved one is killed by another driver. Under Mississippi personal injury wrongful death laws, certain close family members of motorcyclists killed in motorcycle accidents caused by negligent or otherwise at-fault drivers have the right to file a lawsuit in court for money compensation. There is a limited time to file these claims, and it is not that long, so it is always best to speak with an experienced Mississippi personal injury lawyer about your specific case as soon as possible to best protect your rights and options for compensation.
