ATV Accident Takes Life of Mississippi Basketball Player – Learn About How Mississippi Personal Injury Laws Help Families Who Have Lost Loved Ones to Negligently-Caused Accidents Get Justice

RidingATV

A young basketball sensation is gone and a community mourns his death after a tragic and fatal ATV accident. According to local news reports, 26-year-old Cameron Woodall, a high school basketball star who played for Raymond High School and went on to play for Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Grambling, and Tougaloo College, was killed in a collision involving two All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). Although details regarding exactly what led up to the deadly ATV accident are sparse, it is clear that Woodall was riding on an ATV on June 7 in Hinds County, Mississippi, when he was involved in an accident at around 11:30 p.m. in the evening. The other driver who was driving an ATV was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. However, Woodall was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Of the terrible and fatal ATV accident that took Woodall’s young life, the Tougaloo athletics team wrote on an Instagram post, “It is with profound sadness that we share the untimely passing of Cameron D. ‘Big Cam’ Woodall, a beloved former Tougaloo College men’s basketball standout…for his larger-than-life presence, fierce competitiveness on the court, and kind-hearted spirit off it, Cam left an indelible mark on the Tougaloo family…His impact extended far beyond basketball; he was a friend, a brother, and a true Bulldog through and through. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.” The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and it remains to be seen if any charges will follow, or whether any civil lawsuits will be filed.

What Can the Families of Victims of Fatal and Negligently-Caused Accidents Do to Get Justice in Mississippi?

After a loved one is killed in an unexpected accident, it is hard to wrap one’s head around what to do next. When a loved one is killed by a negligent driver in a car accident or other type of motor vehicle accident, it is important to know that you may have rights to compensation under Mississippi personal injury wrongful death laws. Under Mississippi wrongful death laws, certain close family members of victims of fatal accidents caused by the negligence of others may file a lawsuit in court for money compensation. There is a limited time to file a wrongful death claim in Mississippi, so it is best to speak with an experienced Mississippi personal injury lawyer about your case as soon as possible after a fatal accident occurs.
